What We’re Looking For in an Events Manager and Internal Recruiter:

We are looking for an experienced, motivated, and ambitious Events Manager and Internal Recruiter to work in tandem with our leadership team and heads of department. You will be closely aligned with the company’s culture, supporting our unique brand of friendly, technical excellence at community and commercial events, and assisting with the hiring, onboarding, and training of new staff as the company grows.

This is a wonderful chance to help facilitate the continued success of ControlPlane by remotely supporting the leadership team and managing the complexities of event management and staff acquisition in the most efficient way. When it’s safe to rent an office again we would like you to help grow our culture 1-3 days a week, in central London.

Our Events and Hiring person will have at least 6 years’ experience in a similar role reporting directly to senior management. You will also have small business or start-up experience in a tech company and be comfortable performing a variety of duties, with tech savviness being a must. We work on London time and have employees based in Europe and North America. Roles, Responsibilities and Requirements of Our Events and Hiring person:

  • Hiring and HR-related activities, including assisting in internal recruitment.
  • Providing a best-in-class onboarding experience for new starters, being a point of reference for employees during their first days in the company, and offboarding employees.
  • Community meetup support and management; assisting with the community events that the company sponsors, including but not limited to Kubernetes London, Cloud Native Wales, Istio London, Threat Modelling London, and national or international events.
  • Managing events platforms such as Meetup, tracking attendance, managing sponsors, positioning our brand in the community, and promoting events.
  • Running events including booking venues and catering, distributing swag, and introducing speakers and sponsors if necessary.
  • Liaison to industry and our partners, including the CNCF, Linux Foundation, SANS, and O’Reilly.
  • Assisting in the preparation for internal and external company events, including sourcing of venues, aligning a roster of speakers and dates, and keeping the team active and accountable.
  • Travel management for internal or external speakers, including logistics, itineraries, flights, trains, taxis etc. and preparation of related expense reports.
  • Promoting and exhibiting team spirit and company culture.
  • Ad hoc projects and project management as and when required.

Our Events and Hiring person Will Have These Preferred or Specific Skills:

  • A focused team player with a “can do” attitude and excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational, planning, multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Experience planning and running meetups and community events.
  • Able to conquer logistical hurdles and to physically step in to help where necessary.
  • A proactive problem solver with exceptional communication skills – excellent English language skills at a native or fluent level – and adept at authoring and editing copy.
  • Social media management of Twitter, LinkedIn, and Youtube/Twitch.
  • Ability to navigate graphic design and Creative Suite at an intermediate level.
  • A proud technology user and early-adopter who is comfortable with Google Workspace (GSuite) applications and/or MS Office Suite, including Slides and Powerpoint.
  • Ability to act with total discretion and diplomacy and show sound judgement in responding to complex circumstances.
  • An enthusiastic, consummate professional who enjoys a challenge.
